Telespeech (TeleSLP)
Telespeech is videoconferencing technology
that allows individuals to receive speech language pathology services in their
home community, without requiring the health care provider to be physically
present.
Key benefits of TeleSLP include:
- eliminates distance barriers and enables access to services
- enables continuity of services in an area of high staff turnover
- provides peer support and educates local speech assistants and speech teachers
- improves client outcomes through improved therapeutic effectiveness
Communities that currently have TeleSLP units are Aklavik, Behchoko, Colville Lake, Deline, Dettah, Fort Good Hope, Fort McPherson, Fort Providence, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Inuvik, Jean Marie River, Lutselk'e, Norman Wells, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, Tsiigehtchic, Tuktoyaktuk, Tulita, Ulukhaktok and Yellowknife.
