Supplementary Health Benefits Program

The implementation date for the Supplementary Health Benefits Program and the Catastrophic Drug Cost Program has been changed to September 30, 2010.

The delay will ensure that interested NWT residents have the opportunity to receive full and accurate information and can provide input into the program redesign.

This will be accomplished through direct discussion with key stakeholders, public input, and comprehensive data analysis. It will ensure a fair and equitable program which meets the needs of eligible stakeholders - including low income families, seniors and those with catastrophic drug costs.

A Supplementary Health Benefits reference group has been established comprised of community representatives of Non-government Organizations for seniors, persons with disabilities, and low-income residents.

“We have heard the concerns of NWT residents and are confident that, through this process, we can develop a program that meets their needs and addresses their issues,” Minister of Health and Social Services Sandy Lee said.
