NWT TB Statistics
TB per 100,000 NWT and Canada, 87-02
This graph shows that the NWT TB rate is approximately 5 - 10 times the national rate. The rates were exceptionally high in 1995 and 1996 due to TB outbreaks that involved 3 communities. Since 1997, there has been a gradual decrease in TB rates. This is demonstrated in the NWT Graph 1980-2004.
This graph demonstrates that the highest age group for 1990 - 2000 was in those over 39 years of age. Quite often TB occurs in younger populations through infection by elders, the 60 years and older become ill and infectious from previous infection or disease contracted in their earlier years. Generally, TB can occur at all ages.
Tuberculosis by Ethnicity 1992-2004
The majority of cases are occurring in the Dene population with the remaining cases in the Métis, Inuit and Non-status population.
