Hepatitis B Immunization Program for Infants

The Hepatitis B Immunization program for infants began in the the fall of 1995.  This program is offered to infants to prevent a potentially serious infection that can lead to liver scarring, chronic hepatitis or liver cancer.

Hepatitis B immunization involves a series of dosages:

  • the first dose is given soon after birth and before hospital discharge;
  • the second is given at 2 months; and
  • the third is given at 6 months.
